Default ARC on its side?

Is there any reason you couldn't use an ARC preamp or Ref DAC while
its resting on its side? I have limited cabinet space and was considering this option. (assuming proper ventilation, etc)

Definitely should contact arc. I wouldn't do it, personally.

i wouldn't either. especially ref 10.
probably would be better to use triton and typhon with front faceplate down on stillpoints.
that way you have inlets facing up, much easier in confined space with bulky power cords. may scratch front faceplate though...

alternatively, find a new room for your system, or get rid of bulky cabinets and replace with proper racks which may take up less floor space.

Since heat rises, I would image tubes and other components at the top position would be subjected to more heat. This will eventually lead to shorter life.

Airflow is part of the design. Do not place the unit in any position but on its feet as it will not cool properly.

Excess heat kills.

Tubes are designed to be heated, they don't really care about position or direction. However any equipment which produces considerable amount of heat needs airflow for cooling and this has been engineered into the design. Only use in designed way, other electronics besides tubes are affected in operation and shortened in lifetime by excess heat.
There should always be sufficient airspace around any tube equipment, couple of cm under and sides and minimum 10 cm above the unit.
