The price difference is VERY significant . . . and I do think you should buy Meta one, just as soon as she starts taking pictures of race cars. (I'm going to do exactly the same thing)

Which, Stephen, brings up a point . . . Are the improvements in the new camera more valuable to action shooters, and will they be as important to "regular" people - shooting landscapes, city scenes, (grand) children, family pictures, travel, etc?

It would cost me about a thousand dollars to upgrade and I am (still) quite happy with the X-T1. I wonder if it would be worth that much in improvements for a photo hack like me.

Thanks in advance . . . and your pictures (as always) are extraordinary.

The camera was $300 more than the X-T1 when it was announced. Some of this is due to the considerably increased engineering specification of the X-T2 over the X-T1 but some of the price increase is due to the earthquake and Brexit currency impact.

Hi Julian,
I would say for "general" photography the answer would be no. The improvements are really much more around using the camera for photojournalism and sports. While there is more resolution, I don't have enough data to know yet if the noise performance of the camera at high ISO will be comparable to the X-T1. The dynamic range of the sensor is impressive, however.

Thank you Stephen.
And yes, Meta does take sports pictures.

@ Julian, you know I'm a fast runner.

Very impressive! Great Pics Stephen. I enjoyed my XT1 but traded it for a Canon DSLR since I had some Cannon L lenses laying around gathering dust but I do miss the convenience of the compact like an XT. Perhaps an XT2 would be a great addition sometime next year.
