Default Watches and turntables .........

I know one of the group mentioned this company in a watch thread. So now they have teamed up with 'Harry' (VPI) and have gotten into the turntable biz.

Watch the video, kinda neat ...............

I saw the black version of that TT at the Prudential center mall in Boston last week. Looks really nice and I'm glad to see another US made TT. Not sure I agree on the price vs going with a VPI TT but it's good to see either way.

It is a very nice looking turntable. They have a rather curious set of products though.

I found it interesting to hear Harry Weisfeld, VPI's CEO, state in the Shinola video at 1:42, "You can never make plastic sound real". I couldn't help but immediately think of VPI's 3D printed tonearms. .

Not plastic, a resin-based material. That is like saying not being able to make vinyl sound real. If you listen to a JMW Memorial arm and 3d printed arm side-by-side, same table, same cartridge/settings, Dan, you would be a 'Belieber'

The 3D arms are made of an epoxy resin (So I've read). The term plastic is a broad term and encompasses synthetic resins used as a thermoset polymer such as epoxy resins.

Whether or not they sound better is an opinion. Analog Planet ran a "blind" file test on the 3D arm vs. the Aluminum arm. The results were about 50-50 on which sounded better. I prefer Metal arms as I feel they are more lively and musical. I also feel brass instruments sound more real. But I can see why people like the controlled and dampened 3D arms. I think they allow more inner detail.

I've had the JMW 10.5i Classic 3 Arm, 10" 3D Arm and 12" 3DR Arm.

Why are you so against a product you've never tried? I respect your reviews, but you seem to always bash the 3D arms whenever you get the chance.
