Second the reading of The Martian - it started as a free web blog book from what I understand.

My next book is Yeide's, "Tank Killers", which should be interesting as the Sherman was over-matched against the Panther & Tiger. Lucky for us (and, especially the Brits) that we had so many Sherman's and were fighting a 1-front war.
Not to hijack this book thread but the losses were indeed staggering and especially on the Soviet side against German armored fighting vehicles. There were at least three T-34 tanks lost per every Tiger and in some cases, rumor has it, over 20 tanks were destroyed by a single Tiger before it ran out of armor piercing ammo and had to retreat.

Luckily for the world, the Germans over-designed, over-engineered and ran out of time and resources to build the worlds best fighting vehicles and their complexity often made them extremely unreliable as well. The Soviets were cranking out T-34 by the thousands fully knowing they often wouldn't last more than 10 min in battle but the sheer numbers would also win over technological superiority.

Just started Melissa Clark's, "The New Essentials of Frence Cooking". One of those cookbooks that includes several pages of history of the recipe and spin-off recipes & sauces (coq au vin also has a beef Bourguignon, etc). Looking forward to return of the cool weather when it is 'fun' to cook.

Conspirata by Robert Harris. It's been on my bookshelf for quite a while and I've been meaning to read it for a long time. When unpacking at the new house I set aside some of his titles, and found I bought another copy of the same book in the UK during one of my business trips, but the title is Lustrum there. 2nd book in his trilogy about Cicero.
