Thanks JMD - I may look into it!

Only DAC I would consider changing to would be the dCS Vivaldi from the Directstream. No audio equipment is perfect, but the PS Audio firmware revisions especially the latest one is top notch. IMO if this firmware had been with the unit when it was first released, it would have captured a larger market share. I have even read some comments of ex-owners who are considering moving back because of the sonic improvements.

Everything is system, room and taste dependant.

All food for thought.

Ditto with audiohippo on the psaudio dac. I sold the top end accuphase digital stack at the time (900/901) as I preferred the psaudio sound and flexibility (DSD, FPGA upgrades, now including MQA).

That said, I haven't heard the chord Dave and all of the reports on it are great. If you get a good (somewhat) upgradeable DAC that you like, I suggest riding it as long as possible for the pocketbook!

I own chord Mojo which sound out of this world for 600$, but I heard the DAVE with Blu mk2 in Tokyo, the best sounding I ever heard.

And after so much reading from Dave owners in head-fi org who owned or compare it with TotalDac,MBS,dCS,HQplayer and others they love how DAVE for its price exceeds them. Dave could be by far the best DAC ( Digital to PURE analog ) ever made and with Blu Mk2 an upsampler/cdplayer it's hit a far new level.

If you don't hear it you wan't understand

I went from a PS Audio Directstream to Bricasti M1 to Jeff Rowland Aeris and now the Chord Dave. I would be lying if I said how the Dave compared to the Directstream or Bricasti M1, because I haven't had them in awhile. What I can say is, I preferred the Bricasti M1 to the Directstream and the Aeries to M1.
Three things really standout with the Dave compared to the Aeris:

1) the Dave’s clarity/detail
2) Attack and decay...Just wow!
3) Piano...most realistic I’ve heard in my system

Default I expected more

After all the hype and wait, I finally got to try the DAVE. It's a great DAC, but when comparing it to my Esoteric K-01X, it was a virtual tie. I had ordered a new one (which has arrived), but tried my dealer's demo. I am under no obligation to buy the DAVE and the purchase was subject to an in-home trial.

The process has just confirmed (at least for me), just how good the DAC in the K-01X actually is.

Of course, YMMV.
