Can't say for sure but have had a bunch of iPhones over the years but have ventured into the Android world twice when some new Samsung phone is just too tempting to not try. All I'll say is that I've never had any issues on my iPhones but both Androids were occasionally infected ... both times from software from google play. I'm done with them for a while ... unless another evil Samsung sexy phone is just too sexy to pass up ...

One thing you need to remember is that someone who is trying to do damage with a virus will do so on Andriod as it is by far and away the more popular platform. As a matter of fact it is not even close world wide. Have been using Android since inception with no issues.
I would rather have the risk of an open platform than having to be told what I can do with a device that I purchased. I want my device to be customizable. Just my preference

The biggest security vulnerability for these platforms is between your ears!
That said.... As a developer, dealing with the Apple Store compared to Google Play is a real challenge. With Google Play, you just submit your code and they run it through automatic malware detection SW and you're good to go. The problem is that the tools and components you use to make the app could be infected and the malware detection protocol google uses won't catch the bugs. So developers unwittingly spread malware in this way. Apple has a much more hands on approach, where they test every app for functionality and adherence to standards.As they also curate most of the iOS development tools the environment is much more controlled. As a result I think Apple provides a better experience for the customer.
