I know, as a fact, that I hear (or at least notice) some sounds that most people don't. In a story I already mentioned, I was at a friend's house, in his living room, and kept hearing this faint "whooshing" sound. It turns out that one of his toilet tanks (in the guest bathroom at least 20 yards away from where we were) had a small leak so the "refill" valve never quite stopped going. He was very surprised I heard it. I was very surprised he hadn't heard it.

For those reasons, only you can determine if the cost of better power cords is worth it or not for your system.

But there's no doubt in my mind that there is a valid scientific explanation behind this power cord thing.

Alberto
Some of you guys must never leave the house, with that god awful noise made by the grass growing.

Here are a few links on several items that I thought were well researched and presented:

[FYI] Studies On Residential Power Line Noise - Part 4- PS Audio Premier SC Power Cord - Club Polk

[Review] Studies On Residential Power Line Noise - Part 6: PS Audio Soloist Special Edition - Club Polk

Enjoy the read. He has done quite a few more reviews and can put more of a "scientific" spin on things than I can

[Review] Studies On Residential Power Line Noise - Part 3- PS Audio Power Plant Premier - Club Polk

Gordon

If someone wants to move this to the PS Audio section I'm OK with that. They all seem to tie together.

Now that's what I am talking about! Some facts to back up the claims. I have only scanned the links, but this looks like great info. Thanks!

The effect of EMF fields follows the inverse square law (1/X^2); the effect at 24" of distance (say from the components to the power outlet) is 576 (i.e. 24^2) times weaker than it is a 1" distance (the back of your rack).

I hope this helps to explain why we probably hear what we think we hear .

In relation to this is why cable elevators should work. If you have your speaker cables on the floor they could interact with other metals; being within a few inches of rebar in the concrete, or even screws/nails in the wood floor. Remember seeing that elementary physics experiment constructing a simple electro-magnet with a nail, coil of copper wire, and a battery? A current induces a magnetic field around the wire; this is a fact; which may magnetize the rebar, and a changing magnetic field within the rebar could induce an emf back into the speaker cables. And I do it because it looks more organized.

I use a much simpler test to see if anything I buy makes a difference.. I simply call my sweetie down into my listening room and ask if she can hear a difference...

... that's how I know the power cables, the speaker cables, and even the interconnects that I have bought have made a difference...

and she's not really into my hobby, never understands why I do A or B or C, but,... I trust her ears, if not mine.
