Do you think this baby Reference amp will drive my Magico Q3 well ?
Not for high volume listening, but for easy listening time like light jazz, vocals.., solo piano. After trying a few amps, I don't find yet amp that is as fast and fun as my Moon. So I think I better find some sweet amp to use as alternate amp. Ref250 made great sound in my room with both Sophia3 and Q3, but don't feel Ref250 to be as snappy as Moon anyway. So I don't chasing that anymore, I will find amp that has beautiful sound instead. So I think Ref75 is the most suitable. it will be pair with Ref40, a great match. Problem is, will it drive Q3 ? Why not Ref150 ?? it's the meter things.. I like it. It didn't distract me as the needle is so thin that I barely see it moving from listening position. Why not Ref250 ? I don't find it to be powerful/punchy anyway, so why pay more. Toga Last edited by TOGA; 10-21-2012 at 12:36 PM. |

This room at RMAF, playing the Ref 75, sounded very good indeed.

I have no experience with the REF75, but the REF150 paired with the REF40 was the most beautiful sound I ever had in my listening room by far. Beautiful bass is difficult concept, but this system is good example to show it ... |

Why not two Ref75s?

Q3 can't be bi wired so how I don't think it can be powered by two stereo amps. But I agree, two ref 75's certainly look a lot better than a single 150 but it would also cost 3k more.
Toga, if you don't hammer it, the ref 75 should be capable of driving the relatively efficient q3's. The local dealer had one driving some big, inefficient Dunleavy speakers and it sounded very good even at moderate volume levels. |

The Ref. 75 sounded very good driving the NOLA KOs at RMAF too.

Is Dunleavy (sp) still in biz? Google sez John Dunlavy passed away in 2009.
However, Duntech is still in business, in Australia. A friend just had his original Sovereigns updated. |
