Was great to watch the women's Nordic sprint relay last night. First women's medal in Nordic for the USA and a gold, no less. Randal & Diggins were terrific. Especially the last leg by Diggins. Congrats to them and all the others. Just getting to the Olympics is something in the disciplines where the winner actually "wins". Gold in the women's hockey was also great. But, the Norwegians are killing it in medal count. Monsters in the skiing events.

Finally got to see some biathlon. Great win for Bellerussia (sic) in the Ladies relay. Brought home by the lovely Domracheva.

Biathlon is my favorite, but coverage of same in the USA is 'spotty', at best. Being able to stabilize and shoot well with a heart-rate of 170+ is quite an amazing feat. That Forecade was able to repeat in the 12.5km pursuit with two misses (the 2nd place finisher only had one miss) was something else.

Yep, it seems like a new dynasty after the lengthy reign of Bjoerndalen, who, lucky for him, is married to Domracheva. Oh to have grown up with a huge ski jump centre looming over my town, a large ice rink down the road, and a biathlon course a mere bus ride away. I wanna be Nordic so bad.

Indeed. Done quite a bit of downhill, but never been on cross-country skies. My loss.
They just finished showing the men's relay. The wind kicked up and the shooter's won. French were out of the mix after their first leg man missed 4/5 and then 3/5. Then Germany did almost as bad on legs 3 & 4 and fell from gold to bronze. Demanding sport (and no style points ).

There was actually an amateur biathlon course of sorts in Scotland around 10 years ago IMS, and there was a brief showing in the top twenty from a Scottish,er, biathlete in the World cup season, for 1 or 2 races. I doubt it lasted long. All I've done is fall flat on my rear numerous times on the '68 winter ice rink near Grenoble, which I happened upon on a bike holiday. Of course your spoilt for choice with curling rinks in Scotland....

Yep.......... not sure how serious the USA men are in the Nordic events. Certainly can't say that for the women with the relay gold. Maybe Diggins will try a rifle now. Easier to learn to shoot than ski (IMHO).

Looks like the USA has become a 'curling powerhouse'. Who'd a thunk it. Its on the tube now, but I'm falling asleep.
