The answer is: "it depends". Vinyl for an "organic" sound, CD-quality or better files on my mac mini server (which gets the most airtime in my setup), or SACD, which my MVP871 plays wonderfully, especially with a few discs that lend themselves to a multi-channel listening session.

It was pretty close for me between CD and SACD/Hybrid 2-channel SACD. Most of the SACD's sound extremely good, but I have a much larger collection of audiophile-grade CD's that sound very close to SACD

I would choose SACD - Hybrid, listening in two channel, as being Neck and Neck with Vinyl.

Note that the two channel tracks on multi channel SACD's are spectacular - and should probably be lumped together with the two channel hybrid SACD's when making final judgment. In general, SACD's of all persuasions are essentially excellent. (And, yes, I do know that there are some really lousy SACD's - but I listen mostly to classical and most classical SACD's are very good)

SACD sound is almost as good as the best vinyl plus a lot more convenient.

Although I prefer the sound of Hi Rez Downloads and SACD I choose CD because that is where the content is. Content is the driving force for me.
