Default Wilson Duette, Krell KID and PaPa Dock.

While at my local dealer's today, I had a chance to sit down and listen to the Wilson Duette's perched up on a shelf of a large wall unit driven by nothing more than an iPod Touch, Krell KID and PaPa Dock. Guess what? Very impressive. Dynamic, resolving, rather smooth for Krell at least. Great midrange, nice extended highs that were rather smooth for a budget amp like that and I'd say most impressive was the grain and grit free presentation. I'd take a system like that seriously any day. Very enjoyable. One minor flaw was that I thought the bass was just a bit exxagerated for my taste, no doubt because of the large "box" that was formed by the wall unit shelves surrounding the Duette's. Some may actually like that kind of "boost" in the bass. The three of us said the same thing, IMPRESSIVE for what it is.

Thanks Serge,

You are lucky to have such great dealers nearby!

I don't know about that, he is great but he is a bad influence on me since he is always trying to sell me something.

When he see's you drooling he knows it's time to close the sale!

Bring a handkerchief - ( I haven't used that word in years)

I don't drool very easily.

Nice pixxx Serge! Those Duette's are impressive - just have to make sure that crossover is set correctly otherwise they won't sound right.

I suspect you're right regarding the bass boost. The local dealer here usually has the Duettes installed on a long credenza-type cabinet, not enclosed, and I haven't noticed any bass issues. The only time I noticed anything was when they were installed in another demo room with known bass overhang. What do you think of the Duette price vs Sophia2 price? They're so close I don't see how anyone would buy the Duette unless they were very space constrained. Though one of the sales guys at my dealer says the Duette seems to have become the "condo" speaker of choice here in the Tampa area.

I'd say that anyone looking specifically for a high end bookshelf speaker would be well served by the Duette's. "Condo speaker" is an interesting description and I can see how that would be true.

The crossover has a feature on the back that allows for "near wall" and "away from wall". So if you had a condo/apartment, these could be placed on any bookshelf close to a wall or in the the middle of the room and still sound right. They do sound excellent too.
