As I understand it a bridged amp when driving an 8 ohm load "sees" 4 ohms. For a speaker that has a lower nominal ohm rating this is more of a challenge for a bridged amp. If you look on the Soulution web site you will see that there is no power rating at 2 ohms for the 701. The 701 is rated at 600 watts at 8 ohms and 1200 watts at 4 ohms but no power rating at 2 ohms.

I'm guessing the 701 relies on its massive capacitance for the demanding musical transient passages at lower ohm ratings. I am not completely sure.

Interestingly the 701 in its dual mode (for bi amping) has the same power specs at the 711. The 711 is power rated at 600 watts at 2 ohms for speakers that dip way down.

I will say again as in a previous post that for most all musical passages in my direct comparisons that the 701's appear to me to be sonically superior, except in certain rare instances.
Thanks Le Roy. Excellent explanation. Hope you're enjoying your D5's and Chicagoland!

Best,
Ken

I have read a lot of reviews over the years on Soulution gear and some reviewers seem to prefer the 710,711 amps over the 701's. Pretty interesting.

Hi Ken,

I'd be happy to do so. Will have a chance to respond this weekend.

Best regards,

Carlos

Carlos, we should all just come to your music room when you do these comparisons. It would save a lot of typing. LOL Of course everything would sound different in our homes.

You're all welcome anytime. It sure would!

Not sure we would agree on much, but I'm sure we would have a great time. And as a good friend of mine is fond of saying: " if we're not careful, we might just learn something".

Carlos,

Sounds like fun. The Q7's with the Soulution 725/711 must really be something special.

The Soulution 520/501 combo matches so well with the Raidho D3's, it's like they were custom designed for these speakers. Incredible musicality. Like bread and butter.

Hi Ken, Yes they are. It's interesting to me how so many factors (room, electrical power, isolation, cables and speaker position), in addition to the electronics, affect their performance; and how these ancillary elements have to be aligned in order to fully extract the best performance from the Q7s. I'm sure your Soulution and Raidho combo is magical!

Ken,

What I also find fascinating about the Q7s is how they can reach even higher levels of performance when you thought it couldn't get better.

Of course not every component change results in increased performance much less a significant improvement, but the ability of the Q7 to continue to increase performance above perceived thresholds is a tribute to its transparency to upstream components and its available performance headroom.

Your amp/preamp would work well with most speakers I think. It's impossible to try everything.
