First can we move this to the general audio discussion forum:
YES! I build 3 Pairs using Radioshack drivers in early 2001-2ish. The drivers were clones of the Japanese brand Fostex. I found that they are great. Really! Bose has capitalized on this. I know most downplay their stuff, but Bose has the sweet spot between affordable and good enough. I recommend that you experiment a little and built your own. If not. The high-end is Lowther AER, and PHYHP the mid is Fostex and the low is electronic parts retailer that has the word "express" in there name. What I found is that I enjoy 3 way or more loudspeakers. There is just too much bandwidth at high sound pressure levels that I like to have when watching movies and listening to music. That is why I am so "wed" to the Klipschorn, 105dB/w/m is more than ideal for accurate playback levels.

Madisound also has a good selection of drivers.
And high efficiency speakers can excel for dynamics, but it's not everything.
