That adapter is basically just for SmartSwitch (I've never been successful in getting it to work outside of that app). But a USB-C OTG cable is 5 bucks on Prime, with a myriad of choices.

Yes, something like an DragonFly or Meridian Explorer 2 or iFi xDSD or Chord Mojo...

E.......Okay, got it. I may give it a try. I tend to not have the same level of obsessive compulsion with portable sound or automotive sound as I do with my home audio systems.

I'm definitely on the same page with you regarding that mentality, but once I went that route (especially while traveling), I never went back. The difference was that drastic. And really not expensive by any stretch, compared to the home audio obsession.

E.......One of the things that concerns me about using additional electronics attached via USB to the phone is battery drain. I have to believe that attaching something like a Dragonfly Black to my Galaxy S9 will drop battery life quicker than plugging a pair of ear buds into the phone. I have no experience with portable listening devices, let alone listening to music on a smartphone, so my assumptions may be inaccurate. I only loaded the 90 FLAC converted albums to the external 128 GB micro SD storage because I could. My thinking is there might come a time when having that music available on my phone may be welcomed.

I can say this much. I am loving this new Samsung Galaxy S9 smartphone. I carried it all day today, surfed the web, then downloaded two 4K video files via WiFi from my new Blackvue DR900S-2CH dash camera to the S9. Man do those video files look sharp on the S9's WQHD OLED screen. Zooming in still keeps everything razor sharp at that resolution. I made and received a half dozen calls today. This phone is a joy to use. I am getting better signal strength with the S9 in rural north Florida than I did with the Galaxy S7, so that is making me happy, too.
