Kal, what did you mean by "the first great audiophile prepro?" That statement implies the others that you raved about in past are significantly less capable than the SP3, and that the SP3 takes it to another level. Is the SP3 that much better than the Classe SSP800, MacMX150, Krell, etc?

Yup. It distanced itself from the others in the audio system.

Wow. That's quite the endorsement! Does this also mean that, for the first time, great uncorrected analog reproduction has trumped great RC'd/EQ'd reproduction in your rooms? (I guess the answer is obvious, but this is a sea change from your previous observations, so figured I'd simply confirm it).

If you read the review, you will see that I used bass management at 80Hz and EQ-ed the sub.

Kal How does this compare to the Classe SSP 800? that was the most touted audiophile preamp and something that you own.

Well now, this creates a quandary. I have an untreated room that just gobbles up bass, although my new MC452 has improved that issue greatly on the Revel Salons. I have been seriously looking at the Classe SSP-800 and the Krell S1200, as both at least have manual EQ, and that should help with freq anamolies and supposedly better integrate all 7 speakers for mch music and movies. However, given Kal's comments, maybe the Bryston is the way to go? I have a reasonably good sub with EQ (Velodyne Optimum 12), so maybe if I just cross over to the sub on mch, as Kal's did, I'm ok with Bryston? Has anyone heard/compared the Krell S1200?

Hi Folks,

I do not speak German but I am told this video review of the SP-3 is outstanding. I am going to try and get an English version done as well.

Testbericht Bryston SP3 Surroundvorstufe

james

PS - the reviewer purchased 2 units for his home systems.

Hi James,

We just watched the video review one hour ago and I can tell you that review is excellent.

In short:
Review is 30 minutes long and very very detailed,

Conclusion of the review: best sounding surround preamp and one of the best sounding stereo preamp on the market.

Have nice day

Edvard

---Good morning James,

That would be very cool if somehow an English (or French) translation was avail.
But thx for the link anyway.
