This is my first post and what a great thread to be doing it in!
My path has been interesting because I was a music producer before really getting in to high end gear. I was particularly in to production monitors such as the Yamaha NS-10 and then HS-80. Still have the Yamaha HS-80 - a great honest speaker! But I'd always wanted to have a go at tube gear for easy listening so I made the jump into using Manley Labs monoblocks and mated those to Def Tech Mythos ST's. The reason is a lot of the producers I listen to, mainly electronic or sample based, add texture in their recordings and seeking an extreme polish to production isn't really always the goal. Communicating visceral emotion or recognising heritage is a large part of what I think is valuable. So it had to be polite to brutal recordings, and the Def Tech's were awesome. About a year ago an opportunity to purchase Sonus Faber Amati Futura's presented itself...and I jumped at it! I mated it to Audio Research pre and power amps and havent looked back. I love them. They are honest, and suit the music I play and do not colour much at all IMO (I'd consistently heard the myth about that). Sonus Faber were to me always kind of for a special crowd, some would say the conservative jazz classical crowd, but trust me by saying that my community and I throw some vicious recordings at the Amati Futuras and they are wonderful! Everybody around me celebrates my Amati Futuras and especially me - and yes I believe they look much better than the new Amati Traditions |
