To be honest, as long as it says McIntosh on it, it really doesn't matter to me. Love my 501's look though....

Ditto. Design-wise, I think the face of the amps is too large for a flat faceplate.

I love my 501's too, but there's another and she has the biggest blue eyes, a flat front with great handles and she could blow the drivers right out of my speakers...the 1.2KW's are awesome
