I know of the level of your D3s but my N804 took hours/days to break in. New they almost hurt my ears. Be patient Joey. And remember your wife will always have a birthday coming up

Still working on placements, GIK is coming with soffits and monsters.
I will post more when I dial it in. Suffice to say, at this time, I preferred the 802D3 balance in my room so far. But by all measures, on a head to head, the 800D3 is the better speaker. |

This friday (2 days) my next to last set of GIK traps arrive, hopefully this will tame the bass issue I am hearing. I have been able to (via position changes) pinpoint the vocals and midrange, it sounds "almost" like my 802D3 did in my room. Still have work to do.
By friday afternoon, I'll know roughly how the 800D3 are in my room and will know if it's a success or a failure in my room. For those who have heard my system in my room, that midrange and vocal palpability is something I wanted to improve on with the 800D3, alas, so far it has not materialized and I am not sure if it's secondary to the bass balance being off in my room, at my listening spot. We shall see. Stay tuned. |

When you say the bass balance is off, is the bass too excessive versus the midrange and treble or is it something else? Also curious what the size of your room is? Hopefully you get them tamed with the bass traps. |

The 800D3's are slightly taller, so you might need to raise the seating height or tilt them forward to get full coherence and midband presence.

That's a lot of bass trap I hope you don't end up sucking too much out of the mid and treble in the process though, which is always a different sort of trap, for the unwary. Have you tried modelling the room response using REW or similar software? It could be that you have one or two room modes that are being more exposed now that you have speakers that extend deeper into the sub-bass region. If you're not familiar with REW I can model the response for you. All I need are the room dimensions, including ceiling height. Last edited by Art Vandelay; 06-10-2017 at 11:01 PM. |
