Using the DC-950 as input switch, then routing the signal through the DG-58, and finally using the DC-950 for D/A conversion is no longer possible.

IMHO, fitting a newly to develop DG with a format converter DSD to 352,8kHz/384kHz PCM, doing the Voicing/EQ in this highres PCM format, reconvert this highres PCM format back to DSD and then do the D/A conversion should be possible with current calculating power available on the market.

Unfortunately, Accuphase decided otherwise (at least for the upcoming DC-950). What a pity.

What about using the DG58 as an input selector? Once the VC/EQ has been done by the DG58, the signal is sent to DC950 for D/A. Wouldn't that work?

Looks as Accuphase is going to use just one ES9038Pro chip (8ch) per stereo channel ?

It sure would work.

But the DG-58 does not provide enough digital inputs for me. DG-58 has only 3 digital inputs.
I currently use 6 out of 7 digital inputs of my DC-901: (1) HS- Link for DP-900, (2) AES for various professional gear via 8x8 switching matrix, (3) USB, (4) Coax 1 for T-1100, (5) Coax 2 for future Advance Acoustic WTX-1000, (6) Opto 1 for Oppo BDP-95.

Martin is spot on on the "DG-58" inputs dilemma.

I now use it as an input selector (and obviously EQ), but the 3 digital in are always a bit of a pain and many times I have to plug and unplug units.

So the EXT DSP option in the DC-901 is a nice feature: I would have all digital INS of the 901, and an EQ in a digital loop.

Maybe the fact the 950 doesn't have EXT DSP option could indicate that the next "DG" will have many inputs and serve as a proper digital hub. Or maybe there will be no next DG unit... we will see.

Regarding the 1x ESS9038 per channel, it surely looks like that.

I know that the important factors in a DAC are the power supply, signal management, analog amplification, etc. and not only the chip used. I am sure that regarding those aspects Accuphase has done a proper job on the 950.

But *personally* I find a bit boring the plethora of "ESS 90xx" units. Not much fascinating from a technical point of view. More or less the same package "pre cooked by ESS", with good PSU etc.

Compare this to units like the DC-91 (32x PCM63) or especially the DC-81L, with his discrete resistor DA conversion.
Well, these are units were I really see a "cost no object" and intriguing project. No only in the promotional flyer, but in the real hardware.

ahh...
The very first one here I guess. Or could it be mine to arrive first ? Haha. Depends on how fast you're going to get yours.
No, it's a joke. I can't buy these at the moment.

I have paid a deposit but no exact time of delivery yet. Could be toward the end of the month - you could still beat me!
