No, I don't see it. What is the version number? I have 2016.08b (for an older SP3).

Before you embark into updating the firmware, make sure that your unit is compatible.
On the release notes made available by Bryston, the following warning is posted:

“Warning Notice:

Firmware releases starting with 2017.02b are not backward-compatible with older units manufactured before 17-Feb-2017. Such SP3 units, running older firmware will not normally accept firmware revisions issued after Feb-2017 of type mpfs22.

New SP3 units shipped after 17-Feb-2017 will NOT work with old firmware and will automatically reject all revisions prior to 2017.02b, upon upload. Attempting to overrule it would result in "bricking" the unit.

Use SP3_mpfs22.bin for new units and SP3.bin or SP3_mpfs21.bin for old units.”

It sounds to me that most folks in this forum own units built prior to February 17. That would mean that the newest firmware is not compatible with those older units. At least that’s how I read this.

I think that new firmware can be made for the older and the newer SP3s.
For the older ones it must be of the type mpfs21 and for the newer ones of the type mpfs22. (indeed there not compatible.)
So bugs can be repaired or improvements can be made for the older ones as well.

That’s how I read it.

Just read in another forum that Bryston is coming out with the SP4.
With Room correction (that someone said here would never happen with Bryston), the latest immersive codecs, 16.2 channels plus more. That’s good news!

When my Marantz is going to be replaced, this will be a very serious candidate.
