Default XLR Adapters

Been thinking about trying a set of XLR adapters. These would be for my TT so RCA's on that end and XLR at the Luxman integrated, which would allow me to use a "balanced" input. Any real advantage here or just a waste of $$?

Waste of money -- you can't get a balanced signal from 2 wires.

Best Sir,

Bob

Your Luxman has phono stage input that uses XLR connections?

I did exactly that for a while. My phono preamp was not balanced but I wanted to use balanced cables into my preamp. I used a pair of Canare XLR to RCA converters and it worked just fine. The reason I did this was because I knew I was going to upgrade my phono preamp in the near future. A pair of converters was much cheaper than a pair of interconnects.

Default XLR Adapters

Unless your preamp or integrated amp has an XLR input specifically for “PHONO” input, you’ll be feeding the turntable’s low level output to a Line Level input, thereby bypassing the internal RIAA EQ filter. This will adversely affect the sound of vinyl. No?

Also, the turntable is outputting a very small signal, which the internal phono stage amplifies. I would think there will be a large mismatch in volume if using the line input rather than the phono input.

D'Agostino supplies some pretty nice single ended to XLR adaptors with his Momentum amps. I ended up using them on the connection from my E-03 to met pre-amp. If I want to go all balanced I would have to move up to the e-04.

Roger Jim -- SE to XLR adapters is one thing, Phono SE to XLR adapters for it to be a "balanced" input is another.

At least that's how I interpreted the OP.

Phono stages I have seen, if they offer XLR connectors, they also offer SE. In the OP's case, what would be gained by adding an XLR connector to the equipment SE side -- nothing. Thus my response.

BTW, you must mean the E-02.

Best Sir,

Bob
