As with so many things new it is impossible to know for sure, but I think Miles' suggestion to put more hours on the Prime did help quite a bit. I let it run continuously for 3 or 4 days in the end. The bass is decidedly stronger relative to my KAB Technics, which is my reference point, the upper mids and highs are more open and alive (or as I like to say they have a lot of shimmer) and the mids have moved back resulting in a deeper sound stage. Ella Fitzgerald still sounds like she is in the room with Duke Ellington standing beside her on the stage with the band behind them. There is no sharp edge, but definition is excellent. I am starting to like it better and better. Since I have a lot of older jazz records there is a place for both turntables, one stereo and one mono.

Hi guys,

Here is my first post in the VPI forum . Been using the VPI brand since I bought my first model the HW 19Jr then going up the ladder to the HW19 MK4 and then followed by the TNT MK 2.5 .

I currently have the TNT 6 w/ the Classic Aluminum Platter , Periphery Ring , SDS ,Kuzma Stogi REF 313 VTA , Benz Micro Gullwing SLR. My other table is the VPI HR-X w/ JMW 12.7 , Lyra Kleos . I just acquired this table last year. They both sound sublime.

This is an update on my Prime, which is sounding pretty OK now. My arm pivot to spindle distance was too long by 3.5 mm. A new protractor made to the actual distance solved that problem. The speed was off (33.5-33.6 rpm) and no amount of fiddling fixed it. An Eagle and Roadrunner from Phoenix Engineering has that issue solved. Note, my reference turntable is a KAB-SL1200 Technics, which the Roadrunner confirmed runs pretty much right on target (33.334 plus of minus 0.002 rpm), so the slightly off speed was noticeable in comparison. It is doubtful that this would have been a problem without the frame of reference. A periphery ring, HRX spindle and double belts were added more recently. All in all it has been a fairly long quest to dial the Prime in and if I had known up front what was in store I might have balked, but then every turntable requires setup attention. The end result is what counts and as I say, this Prime sounds quite good now.

Bill

Hi ,

My sister has one . An Aries 3D , it had the SDS Power supply when she got .She bought a VPI Periphery ring , and the Single Motor Flywheel assembly . She's very happy and it was much better than her old HW 19 MK2 w/ upgraded Classic Aluminum platter and w/ a Dynavector 507 tonearm .
