I have just purchased a pair of PMC IB2i, and I am planning to drive them with 3 Linn Klout amps, in tri-amp mode. I also have the option to sell the Klout amps and buy another amp (e.g. Bryston), but I really like the Klout (I used them on other speakers though...Triangle Lyrr and B&W 803s).

Just, I wanted to know if anyone had previous experience with IB2i and Klout.

Thanks

Lorenzo
I had a pair of 7bsst's hooked up to my mb2's for a few weeks, had a great time. If you wanted to tri amp your ib2i's you would need to remove the passive crossover and move to an active crossover using something like DEQX. I have no experience with Klout so cant help there but can say without doubt PMC's love power on tap.

Hope you enjoy your newest upgrade in good spirits and good health

Sj

The speakers that started this thread are now in my system. I can report positive experiences with mcintosh 501s, BMC c1 integrated, and now with Conrad Johnson MF 2550 SE. The Conrad Johnson is my favorite between the three set ups. Personally, I would go with a two channel amp w sufficient power and some high quality solid silver jumpers on the speakers. Dan discovered the solid silver jumper tweak and started a thread a while back...definitely worth a read.

Thanks for the welcome and the responses!
Sorry for the ignorance, but...why would I need to remove the passive crossover for tri-amp? Can't I just remove the jumpers on the connectors on the back of the IB2i's and connect every amp to a separate input?
That's 160w per driver and per channel on 4 ohm, which should be a good start...

Thanks!

Lorenzo

You could do that but it would yield sub par results. To do it properly you need to go active not passive so some smart electronics in the middle can divy out the power to be suit the speakers. There is lots online about this topic if you google it (active cross over).

Big difference in results but requires a little experimentation. The (factory) active version of my MB2sP's is 100k , because its active not passive and its a lot better sound quality wise.

Nb: the active setups from PMC come with amps as well as active cross overs etc.. which is why there is a big price difference.

It's very clear but...at the moment I don't have budget to go "active", therefore...all I can do is to connect each of my klout connected to one separate input on the back of the IB2i (Low-Mid-High)...I know it's not optimal, but for the moment is all I can do, and it should be anyway better other than having a single Klout.
Thanks again
Lorenzo

Bridging the amps may yeild better results which is when you tie them together to double/triple their output

Thanks!
I'm not sure thugh I can bridge the linn Klout amplifier...I can't find information about this online and/or on the manual.
I might just do a vertical bi-amping for the moment!
Thanks
Lorenzo

Hey Paul,

Sorry you did not like the PMC. Do you still have the silver jumpers?

Kinda nice to pass it along PMC owners please🙏.

Thank you
