Default 808.3 CDP in the house!
Well I finally bit the bullet and picked up Meridian's top of the line spinner. I have been living with a buddy's MS600 for the entire summer. I was originally scheduled to bump into him on my trip up to Maine for the weekend. (Hurricane Irene has seen fit to alter my plans!) He was generous in letting me hold the MS600 for so long. Lest you think him a saint, he's been holding onto one of my favorite motorcycles (2002 Ducati, Ben Bostrom signature 998) for much longer than that!

I have long since abandoned CD spinning for server-based (Sooloos) playing of my music. The 808.3 has an internal card (ID40) that allows the spinner to act as a 'source' in the Sooloos environment. I took the well respected advice of Jerry (JSCC) and Howie (howiebrou) when considering this purchase. They both highly recommended this addition. I had the luxury of living with the MS600 for an extended period of time, so I can now contrast and compare both products.

The 808.3 is bulky (480mm (18.9in) x 175mm (6.9in) x 411mm (16.2in) (whd)], but not terribly heavy (~20-25 lbs). I've got her all wired, powered and settling in. I hope to have pictures and comments on it's performance in the near future. Of course the first thing I did was to throw a CD in the sucker. Miles Davis' "Kinda Blue" sounds rich, spacial and quite good for a first playing. More later.
