Can't you bypass the DAC's in the speakers and use those in the 808? I would be calling Meridian with those questions. You have some nice stuff there.
I think we are preconditioned hearing digital with all the unnatural pre-echo and post-ringing artifacts already. The Ayre CDP has a similar apodizing filter which eliminates those artifacts that don't exist in real life music or analog. The Ayre actually eliminates both sides of the equation while Meridian concentrated on the pre-echo only. At least that is what Stereophile review revealed. I was a little taken back by the Ayre CDP, everything seemed so natural sounding that it felt like something was missing. What was missing is the digital edge and the artifacts. It takes a bit of time to get re-adjusted to that type of "natural" sound.

At this point the Ayre is a no go for me since it does not have variable outputs or access to its DAC's. The Meridian is still an outside possibility since it can be configured as a pre.
