Has a date been announced when 4014 will be back in service? Last I saw was a vague 2017-2019.

Don't know whether you ever made it up here to the Steamtown Historic Site & Trolley Museum in Scranton - Union Pacific 4012 "Big Boy" is on permanent display, not operational though.

our railroad (the Delaware Lackawanna) operates out of Scranton, Steamtown runs it's excursions over our rails.

This past week we operated an inspection train hosting NS personnel, the following slide show is of the trip.......

Craig, every time I step up into that caboose it's like I've gone back 42 years to when my railroad career began !

The unique part of our trip was that in our consist was a 1949 dinning car from the 'Phoebe Snow', the Delaware Lackawanna's crack passenger train between Hoboken, NJ and Buffalo, NY. My grandparents took me on that train and I ate in that very diner back in 1961, right after the DL and the Erie merged.

For our trip we had the Lackawanna Culinary Institute prepare a tasty four course meal for our invited guest of Norfolk Southern while on the trip.

Been there, but like many of the trains at the Strasburg facility, in sad repair. With federal funding you would hope that they would do better. The Forney Transportation Museum in Denver probably has the best preserved Big Boy outside of Cheyenne. It is a great museum with well preserved stock.

Dave - indeed, you look right at home. Any chance you could put together an excursion for us AAf folks & families? A prepaid subscription trip with lunch? If a summer day am sure I can get my wife and grandkids to go along.

My brother and I did the Royal Gorge train trip with lunch and it was excellent (quail w/wild rice, etc.). We rode in the cab of the F3 (what they were running at the time) on the return trip.
