Default California Wild Fires

The scope of the wildfires currently raging in California is hard to comprehend. The number of burned out buildings and homes is rapidly increasing along with the number of missing individuals.

My cousin and part of her extended family in the Santa Rosa area have had to relocate 3 times already. Their homes are in an evacuation zone and it will be at least a week before they are able to return. Currently at least they have homes to go back to. They know they have lost a motorhome they recently purchased when the location it was stored was consumed by fire.

Yep...

My folks are currently housing a few family friend "refugees" who couldn't breathe - thankfully their homes still appear outside of the hot zone. Other friends have homes in the hot zone and have also had to relocate numerous times (they couldn't come down our way due to work commitments - in the wine industry and likely in charge of the collective crisis management).

Devastation and tragedy. The number of missing keeps rising with still a small death count. Hopefully those people are found unharmed.

I find it hard to comprehend how fast the fire grew to the scale it did to cause the loss of life and destruction.
I listened to stories, yesterday, where people didn't even have time to grab their phone on the way out of their homes.
It sounds like a life or death situation with little to no warning.

They were saying it was consuming an area the size of a football field every 3 seconds.

Yes, the skies here in the immediate Bay Area are covered in smoke.

My son is attending Dominican Univ in San Rafael.......Classes were cancelled Monday, but past 2 days in session. He tells me they have been ready to evacuate, but I don't know where they would go, being he is in the dorms??
The air quality is horrid, all his outdoor activities have been cancelled, he plays lacrosse for them and all practices and this Sat game has been cancelled.

Mom and I have been worried......being we are 2 states away.

Been dealing with some other issues -- how did this one begin? Cigarette/lightening strike?

Best Sir,

Bob

Hi,
I just drove past Dominican. The air quality is bad with a red orange setting sun. However, San Rafael is about 40 miles from Santa Rosa. I would not worry too much. The last time Dominican caught on fire it was caused by a painter striping old paint off a 100 year old building .

Thanks Roger.....I really appreciate the update. My son has been keeping us updated via text msgs. His coach lives in Novato and told the team he may be evacuated, to the school.
Students have been given masks to wear, ash falling everywhere....

We are going down in 2 weeks for a lacrosse tourney....hopefully by then all will be good.

Jose

The fires are still burning. It's hazy again today in San Francisco.
