You may be correct, but I wouldn't think lifelong 'car guys', especially performance-car guys would be exactly thrilled with silent cars. The sound of combustion is part of the charm. And perception of speed. I'm not even thrilled by the sound of most turbo engines (in vids) which are legion these days and plenty of reviewers, professional and otherwise, comment negatively on that.

Agreed 100%. The enthusiasts should be able to enjoy their petrol powered cars for quite some time after the revolution takes hold, just like people still collect, drive and enjoy some of the vintage cars from the turn of the last century. No one should take that fun away from them and I certainly hope that source of gasoline does not disappear all together and make them undrivable in the future?

Ha, someone is at their computer too.

I was just now copying this from your second post to paste it to mine:

I should add, I guess, that I'm in CA and glad to be so (MN transplant as a teenager) but if "engines", as opposed to "motors" (and yeah, I sometimes refer to gas engines as motors) are ever not allowed on public roads - It'll probably happen here first. Although CA has a big (biggest?) car culture, I don't know...as Boomers depart the landscape, there will, in time, probably be fewer and fewer young people as a percentage who, in the electronic era, care about performance cars. So as a lifelong car/vehicle enthusiast who won't be here anyway and who is leaving behind no children or immediate family, I guess I'll say "oh well" or meh.

How could the band "Rush" be so "prophetic" in their 1981 album "Moving Pictures and the song "Red Barchetta"??

The song's lyrics tell a story set in a future in which many classes of vehicles have been prohibited by the "Motor Law".

While it seems the "Car Culture" is stronger than ever, with the explosion of high HP performance cars from just about every brand out there to all the events that are popular these days such as the weekend "Cars and Coffee" events, track days and autocross courses that are more accessible than ever, all the Car Clubs and organizations that promote the love for cars and even all the car driving simulation games available for every gaming platform, one would think we are reaching the "golden age" for cars and it is true. It's never been this good before.

The "car culture" will not disappear anytime soon, it will just have to adjust to the mass production and implementation of the next generation electric and perhaps alternative fueled vehicles on the roads.

Even the Formula E (electric racing cars) era is here... Who would have thought anyone would be interested in the nearly silent Formula E cars zip around the track when we all grew up listening to the delicious soundtracks of wailing and screaming F1 engines??? It just doesn't do anything for me personally but the newer generation may just embrace it.

I have heard (don't quote me) that some electric cars have the sound of a gas engine coming through the car's stereo to simulate the perception of a powerful gas engine.

Maybe someone can confirm this.

You are probably correct but I am pretty sure that the Porsche Mission E is going to be a heck of a ride.
