Two recent reads:

(1) William C. Harris' Lincoln and Congress, which describes Civil War executive- and legislative-branch relations on military affairs, finance, slavery, reconstruction, and constitutional rights.

(2) Steve Coll's Private Empire: ExxonMobil and American Power, a study of the corporation's perceived imperatives, power, influence, foreign entanglements, and lobbying over the past two decades.

Currently writing a work of my own, a contemporary thriller.

Joey Kramer Hit Hard by Joey Kramer with William Patrick and Keith Garde. A gripping story on hardship, suffering, resilience, and the power to survive and move forward...

Hello. It has been a little while since I last posted on the website. I have been quite busy, but nevertheless I am glad to to be back in action for good discussion. Anyway I plan to have a free weekend to read the following books with the second book being a savory welcome that I have been waiting for its release. I have have been a great fan of the Alien universe since its release in 1979. At that time, I simply viewed the movie as a spectacular horror science fiction flick. It was not until the early 1980’s that I began to view the movie through a different lens. At that time, I was deep in my undergraduate studies and Stephen Jay Gould released the book, Hen’s Teeth and Horse’s Toes of which the movie Alien was referenced in the second chapter titled, Nonmoral Nature. I again want to reread the book and refresh my memory as I proceed to read the current chapters in the Alien universe. Furthermore, the music by Peter Maunu holds a special place as background music for the occasion. I first obtained this album in the early 1990’s and had this in the background while reading the recently published Hyperion series by Dan Simmons at that time. Since that time, I only listen to the album on those rare special occasions. I believe that this collection of books is such an occasion. I hope that you don’t mind my thoughts, but here are the following books:

1. Hen’s Teeth and Horse’s Toes by Stephen Jay Gould
2. Alien Covenant, Origins by Alan Dean Foster
3. Alien Covenant by Alan Dean Foster

Peter Maunu— — — Warm Sound In A Gray Field

Regards

Finished James D. Hornfischer's "Neptune's Inferno", which was excellent. Again, makes one wonder how either side won most wars, the leadership was so bad (Halsey should have been cashiered at least three times - kept for political reasons). Now reading a little covered portion of the Pacific war, Stephen R. Taaffe's "MacArthur's Jungle War". Learning quite a bit.

Excellent book by one of my favorite authors (The Zimmerman Telegram, The Guns of August, March of Folly, etc.).
Have Will & Ariel Durant's complete "The Story of Civilization" in hardback waiting for us to figure out our relocation.

I’m listening to audiobooks, specifically The Dark Tower Series by Steven King. It’s of the Fantasy genre which is little different than his usual genre.

I read or listen to everything Dean Koontz writes.
