It's happening again! Somewhere around the third into the fourth album the 275 becomes absolutely awesome. It's that tube magic.😎

Good to see the McIntosh MC275 got a A rating in the October 2017 Stereophile Recommended Components.

Josep.......Tube amplifiers are able to reproduce music within one minute of being energized in most cases. There is no long waiting period to begin to hear sound, however there is a period of time after a tube amplifier is energized before the sound becomes fully fleshed out. That time period will vary based on the amplifier in use. When I owned a pair of MC275's running in mono it took approximately 30 minutes for the amplifiers to reach their best performance. With my MC2301 tube power amplifiers I find they reach peak performance in about 45 minutes. That doesn't stop me from enjoying music when I first turn the sound system on, it just means that within 30 to 45 minutes I find the harmonic richness of the sound to be more engaging.

I am auditioning the MC275 in my home this weekend!

So far it sounds really great - even with the stock tubes.

If I purchase the MC275, rolling to Gold Lions for the 12A tubes would be my first action based on what I have read here. Can you get better sound by rolling the KT88's also? I know they are more expensive and was wondering if the stock tubes are considered good to stay with?

Enjoy your auditioning.

Stock tubes are fine no doubt; but, there are benefits to going with the Gold Lion KT88's and all Gold Lion Gold Pin 12v tubes. Many agree across the board, going to a full bed of Gold Lions in the MC275 results in improved dynamics, imagining, a smoother mid-range, and better definition on the highs.

AA has their own tube supplier for the Gold Lions and believe he's the most inexpensive reseller (and distributor) of the New Sensor brand on the internet. He only sells GL's to AA'ers and doesn't sell GL's outside of that forum.

For $25 a year, you can be a AA subscriber where you'll have the benefit of his services and many other perks you don't presently have.

I found rolling in GL KT88s to be the way to go on both the MC275 & MC75s. You state they are more expensive, but they are about half the price of the stock tubes (based on the price you will be quoted by your dealer) and, to my ears, sound noticeably better.

Thanks for the input. The MC275 passed the audition and I will be placing the order as soon as the dealer calls to pick up the demo unit. Then I will look for the GLs!

Did you take a look in the marketplace? Assuming it's still available, there is a great deal on an MC275vi.
