Glenn, the Violectric brand is made in Germany and is a subdivision of the pro-audio company "Lake People electronic GmbH". Much like "SPL" brand of pro-audio, also from Germany, you will find both brands in serious recording studios. At some point both companies decided to branch out into "audiophile" products.

Arthur Power of Violectric USA is a stand up guy, very dedicated to his products and customer service. No worries. The Violectric is built like a German Panzer tank anyways, it seems to be very reliable and has quite a following in the headphone community.

I did a write up on it here. https://www.audioaficionado.org/showthread.php?t=41380

Serge - glad to see you are loving your LCD-3's! I ended up with LCD-4's in large part due to your review of them - I knew they would be a good fit for my tastes.
Enjoy in good health my friend!

Thanks Tom, the LCD4 is jaw dropping, stunningly great pair of headphones. I love my Utopia but I can see myself simplifying my collection in the near future and being very happy with a "few" pairs of Audeze.

For a relatively young company, I think Audeze has a very bright future ahead of them with such outstanding engineering, sense of style and performance of their products.

Focal is also making huge strides with their latest foray into the headphone market. Audeze or Focal, simply can't go wrong. These are great times to be a headphone enthusiast.

Is a headphone amp required for LCD-3s if my integrated amp and my preamp have jacks?

You can certainly enjoy them that way. Like everything else in audio, the sky is the limit, a dedicated high quality headphone amp will certainly drive them even better when and if you want to squeeze more out of them.

Like most anything else we listen to, it depends...................
Depends on how your preamp/integrated amp handles headphones. Some feed 'full power' to the earphone jacks and some use a voltage divider and limit the voltage/current available and some use other designs. My suggestion would be to do some critical listening, as should be easy to A/B (plug into the preamp then plug into the integrated amp). Also, if/when you decide to purchase a headphone amp, try to get one to audition and A/B against your current preferred source (preamp or integrated amp).

Had some free time to dedicate to "maintenance" of the LCD3 today. Conditioned the stock leather headband before returning it to the storage case now that I am using the Carbon Fiber upgraded headband. After that is was on to massaging the leather ear cups to feed and condition the supple leather with Audeze Leather Conditioner. Buffing the leather and wiping the headphone down with a microfiber cloth resulted in spotless, shiny and gorgeous wood trim and well fed and conditioned leather ear cups.

Then it was on to cleaning and polishing the silver 1/4 TRS jack of the Wireworld Platinum Cable with the Wireworld Jewelry cleaning cloth.

Oh, of course they sounded better than ever after the maintenance routine.

Don't forget to condition your Audeze and other headphones on a regular basis to maintain and preserve the leather.

Just pulled the trigger on a 'gently used' (only listened-to in church by a little old lady on Sunday mornings ) pair of LCD-3 headphones. Big mental debate on my part between the LCD-3 and Focal Clear. Decided on the LCD-3 based on the unanimous reviews of their performance and the fact that Serge owns a pair. If they don't work for me I'll try a set of the Focal Clear. Could a BHA-1 be in my future?

These are great cans. I’ve got the LCD-4’s and couldn’t be happier. Detailed, smooth, great bass - all the things I like in headphones. The clear is good but I think lacking in bass and recovery of hall sounds in classical. Enjoy the comparison - very different ‘phones.
