The Roon controler on iOS requires an iPad Air or later. Something to do with the graphics processor only in the newer iPads.

Thanks for the explanation. I'm an 81 year-old retired guy, but I feel 80 may be the new 50.

The QX-5 Twenty is with FedEx, so I expect to have my first encounter with Roon shortly.

If I connect Roon to the Q-5 by ethernet does it need to run on a Mac Mini in close proximity or can it run on the iMac upstairs on the same ethernet network?

Anywhere on your network is fine.

The sound with AES from my C-5xeMP through the QX-5 is outstanding. So far I've been unsuccessful in getting optical from my Oppo 105 through the QX-5 and need to continue working on that. It took most of yesterday for me to discover that a C-5 switch needed to be set to enable digital! I have yet to try the ethernet input and Roon.

I was relishing the superb sound of files played with Roon through the QX-5 when all of sudden I lost audio. O switched to optical from the Oppo, but still no audio. I powered down the QX-5 and unplugged it for a half hour to no effect. I was trying to bring up Roon remote on my iPad and had pressed something labeled configure, without understanding what that would do. That may be causative or coincidental. I'm trying to contact Ayre tech to learn if reset might be the next step. I'm waiting from a call-back from Ayre.

Default Ayre QX-5 Twenty First Listen

Go into the setup menu and just do a total reset. If that doesn't work, download the latest firmware and install it. If you are on the latest firmware, reinstall it, let it flash again. If reset doesn't bring sound back, firmware reflash should.

To get the latest firmware, go here:

You probably did trigger a bug related to sample rate changes when you hit configure, but I am speculating. If you find you have to reset or reflash firmware often, this is not normal operation and the unit probably needs to go in, but let Ayre trouble shoot it.

I'm sure Michael at Ayre will help you out. Blackstone, good to see your posts. Call to catch up if you want to.
