Earlier this week I was watching the Eric Clapton/Steve Winwood DVD of their Madison Square Garden concert and enjoying my favorite track, "Them Changes." And a bit past midway through the track I thought, "wow, this sounds good". And maybe it was there before (with my B&Ks, as opposed to the current Mac 501s) and I didn't notice, but I sensed a transparency I hadn't previously. Granted, this is a well-recorded DVD, but even so, if the system sounds this good with stock cords and my 2 Tripplites, do I really need to do anything else? If it weren't for that Cable Company credit that needs using, I might not.
So I'm researching (again ) and note that my Tripplite HT1210 (not 1012 as previously typed) offers 5700 joules of protection. I can't find this info for the Furman conditioners so far, but PS Audio's conditioners offer 7344 joules (even the little Duet). There are many options out there, not only for power cables but conditioners too. It's been well said that too many choices can be paralyzing, and the inability of the audio part of me (not as intense as most here, I think) to decide means I'm going to fall back on my practical side (my "Vulcan" half) to resolve this. |

What's the hurry? You're getting nice transparent sound right now, your audiophile-half can wait for it to get even better with upgrades, can't it? In the meantime sit back and relax, enjoy the tunes with your current setup as a half-vulcan. Once funds are replenished, turn your audiophile-half loose again to pursue the upgrade path...

I was looking for a new TV since 2005 or so, when I began researching. From about 1994 up until 2008 I was okay with what I had aside from the TV; I bought one 7/23/08. So then until now I've bought (in no particular order): a TV, TV stand, equipment racks, CD/DVD rack, SACD player, tuner, 2 blu-ray players, video processor, interconnects (because what I had wouldn't work with the stand), turntable conditioner, tonearm cable, S-Video/digital audio selector, power conditioner, monoblock amps, and an audiophile extension cord. I don't want to think about how much money that is. The final arbiter for further moves is going to be money, probably. As for power cords, I'm torn between Kimber, WW and PS Audio. I was last week, too. And the one before. With the exception of the Jewel AC, PSA power cords are quite stiff, and I prize flexibility above almost all else. I'm thinking something not too expensive that I wouldn't mind moving up from in a couple of years, finances and desire permitting. |

I have a couple PS Audio AC-10 power cords and they do start out really stiff when new, but they've loosened up nicely over the span of several months. Doubtful they will ever become loose as spaghetti noodles, but they've gone from very stiff to somewhat stiff in a relatively short period of time.

The AC-10's probably as stiff as it looks.
