Jerome,
Okay then, so we know where he works. Sounds as if it may not be as hard to get your money back as it was sounding. Forget the lawyer, pay someone to go in to the store and take care of this.

Now I don't know anything about the US system but in France, the cost of the lawyer will ultimately be paid by the defendant if he looses the trial.
Yes, but this isn't going to trial. Just contact McIntosh and confirm that they have them. Stop. Let us know.

If they don't have them you might have a problem; if they do, you are probably fine.

I've completed several transactions thru Audiogon with "the pimp" over the years without incident. Maybe somebody could find out where the 1.2KW's are at right now, just a local phone call or visit to MSS showroom from a helpful NYC forum member might shed some light on what appears to be a dark situation

Dan Graves, the Operations Mgr @ McIntosh, may be able to help you with the seek and find of the 1.2Kws IF they are at the factory.

How much does your friend want to spend? I can put you in touch with a top tier litigator, but it will run > $800/hour.
Wow - that is serious coin for a lawyer. For a €13000 claim? I don't think so.

I have to agree with Rilands. Lawyers and what are essentially small civil claims don't go together. Quite often the fees outweigh the claim, with little or no return on the money spent. No point throwing good money after bad.

I'd endorse doing what MasterBritt and Miner suggest: get on the phone and find out where the amps are, if in fact they exist. It might work out with a little prompting.

I certainly do not subscribe to any form of vigilant action. It is illegal and quite wrong. Polite but firm and persistent inquiry will go along way I suggest. Even better if your friend can enlist a native NYer to help him communicate

Thanks again guys,
All good advices here.
I did not have any contact with JL today but I'm sure that he will read everything here.
I will inform you of the evolution of this case.

I am a lawyer with 30 years experience in NY. I live in Manhattan. I cannot handle consumer cases like this one but I would be glad to make some suggestions pro bono on how to proceed. Please send me a PM.

Thanks David.
Jean Luc will contact you for sure if he does not get any information on the serial numbers of the amps.
Cheers,
