We love Maui too, but Hawaii is our favorite island. We stay at a place called the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, one of those Marriott Autograph collection hotels. Very nice.

Maui is simply beautiful. I highly recommend it to anyone. The weather is in the ideal zone where it's warm enough to go in the water yet breezy enough to keep you comfortable. We did a lot of swimming and snorkeling to view coral, sea turtles and tropical fish, went parasailing, drove up to the top of Haleakala (10,000 ft.), drove on the Road to Hana and hiked thru the Bamboo Rainforest, went to a luau, and I tried to learn how to surf with very limited success, LOL. I had a difficult time coming back and have thought since our return of retiring to Hawaii.
Glad to hear and not surprised that you had a great vacation; Maui is a personal favorite...the beaches, the diving, the food, upcountry complete with cowboys, cattle and great places to ride horses, Hana (and the road to it) and of course Haleakala that is other-worldly to say the least. Kaui and the Hilo and Kona coasts of the big island also inspire the same kind of awe for me and I dying to find a job that will let me live on Maui and let split my time between US and APAC/APJ clients !

Plan on going in summer 2018 and staying at Marriott's Maui Ocean Club which is a time share managed by Marriott resorts. It's a crap shoot for availability as allotted owners turn their non-attending allotment period over to Marriott Vacations NLT 60 days prior to.

Trying to get 5-6 rooms. We'll see.

Have stayed at the Hale Koa military hotel on Waikiki beach several times (to/from Philippines) as HQ/Personnel & Finance was at Wheeler AFB (next door is the Hilton Hawaiian Village). Great memories -- and at the time $39 a night.

Best Sirs,

Bob
We stayed at the Diamond Resorts facility in Kaanapali. Not the newest place but still nice nonetheless. Let us know how the Marriott resort is as I'm a Marriott Rewards member. BTW, thank you for your service to our nation.

If we're lucky enough to secure the rooms needed will do Sir. Been told to start looking regularly beginning in January '18. Not to derail the thread, but thank-you -- on the latter. Can't say I enjoyed every minute of all 24 years -- but can say I'm glad I did 'em.

Best Sir,

Biob

Hyatt, Kaanapali, is also nice. My brother-in-law lives in Wailuku Heights. Snorkling off the beach in Kihei is nice. Kihei isn't. Merriman's, Mama's Fish House, Lahaina Grill, Plantation House and the Pineapple Grill are good places to eat. Haleakala is great. Don't forget your jacket. Can be quite cool (cold?) at the top, even in summer. Snorkling in the Molokini Crater is also excellent. The Pacific can be cool for extended stays in the water. A half-wet suit and neutral buoyancy belt can be your friend. May the Humuhumunukunukuapuaa be with you.

Loved Maui. I proposed there. The weather was perfect and we went in December.
For our 10th year anniversary in June, we went to Oahu instead and it was also incredible.
Cannot go wrong with either one. Next time we may try the big island.

so we'll be headed to Hawaii in December or January. On past trips, we've gone to Kauai but would like some recommendations on other islands with a similar vibe- don't like high rise over-developed areas, more into natural beauty.
Any recommendations?
Tom
