Do you have any familiarity with the Musical Surroundings Nova Phonomena. It has the loading and gain settings I would need for the Talisman, and at $1000 is in a doable budget for me.

I own both the Nova and Phonomena II, great phono stages in thier price catagory, ton's of loading and gain adjustment for just about any cartridge.....works nicely with the Talisman too. The differences between the two stages is the battery power supply on the Nova as you know, compared both and hard press if I could hear one better than the other. I think if your AC was so screwed up there could be a sonic advantage with the Nova but being these are plugged into power conditioners I haven't experinced one better than the other.

Thanks Jeff. I'm going to see if I can get my dealer to bring in a demo for me to eval after I get my new table/cart.

Last year on my VPI, I upgraded my cartridge to the Talismann V2 and I also moved into a Fosgate Signature tube phono preamp. Coincidentally, they both come from Musical Surroundings. There was a gentleman there that spent a good amount of time on the phone with me and I must say he was spot-on correct on the matchup of the two. It sounds great. I did immediately upgrade the tubes to gold pin JJs and that difference was noticable also. The new tubes tightened the lows and mids back up just a little. I am thrilled with the sound. For what it's worth........

Thanks for the post. I googled your preamp. It lead me to the order page at MusicDirect. While it's out of my range, that did lead me to a demo Fosgate Fozgometer that MusicDirect has for sale for $200, saving me $50 on something I already planned to buy.

Let Jeff W bid the purchase. He did a great job for me before and after my purchases, with setup questions and price.

Yes, I can maybe save a few dollars with Jeff. And when I tell my dealer to cancel my Musical Surroundings order for several thousand dollars, the same dealer that has for 20 years been very liberal about loaning me equipment for home audition, giving me discounts on purchases and providing excellent support, I'll sour that great relationship I have with them. Then they might also complain to Musical Surroundings who confront Jeff for selling product in another authorized dealer's territory.

With all due respect to Jeff -- and I'd be happy to give him business for stuff my dealer won't handle -- this does not not sound like good idea for me.
