I agree with your assessment of the DS sound.
I put different interconnects in and the DS is even better tonight. No tone controls needed.

Is the Qubuz better quality than Tidal HiFi? Paul McGowan has praised Quobuz as the best streaming source.

Qobuz supports lossless hires (basically 24 bit FLAC). TIDAL uses MQA which is compressed hires. Sadly Qobuz isnít available in Australia.

FWIW I find UPNP/DLNA to sound better than Roon - not just on the Bridge II but also on a variety of other network streamers including Chord Poly And Naim Uniti. So sometimes I revert back to JRiver or Audirvana to stream to the Bridge.

The developer of Audirvana says the Bridge II implementation of MQA on UPNP is non standard and doesnít support it. If it did, it would be my choice for TIDAL MQA.

But for the richness of the interface, itís hard to beat Roon.

Yes, I believe it does sound better. MQA just never sounded quite right for me. I was very excited about it after all the hype, but there is just something artificial about it. No such issue with Qobuz hi res files, these are the real deal and sound magnificent.

Thanks Doggiehouser and Jrsystems for info on MQA and Quobuz. I may hold off on the Bridge and just set up a macmini.

PS Audio is going toship me a new DirectStream instead of warranty repair. I will be waiting until they get more built. Only have too hassle with double burn in. But at least I will have the DAC.

I listened to some streamed Miss Saigon my wife’s favorite. Iwill say the DirectStream puts the instruments back in the orchestra pit with deeper soudstage and the accoustics from the theater more evident. . Much more realistic and enjoyable for realistic experience.
