Is it really worth speculating about who worked (or explored) first, second or last in the amplifier? What satisfaction or frustration could one get from eventually knowing?
From the pictures it doesn't seem to be a botch job that was done as final intervention. That's not too bad.
What seems more important to me is, how does it play? Can you get happy with the musical result?
Satisfaction is never measurable on an objective value scale ;-)

Whoever has done it, there was intentions behind it. To do such a massive makeover to a classic Shindo unit at least for me its not a good thing. When someone wants a modern Shindo unit, he can buy one easily.
Best, Hotz
Agreed on all points. Contacting Shindo would likely solve the mystery. Or perhaps the seller has some of the documentation. In any event, if I bought it I would be keen to answer the question.

Or are thy just usual suspects operating under a new identity ?

Default Ra1474-ii

I had a communication from Shindo Laboratory this morning indicating that his preamplifier was updated by them.

Whoever it has done, it could have been done with a little more effort in the same style of the old classic Giscours using the now unused but still fine turrent lugs. Someone has been choosen to do it a quicker and easier way. Seems not to care too much about the old aesthetics...
Best, Hotz

Said the person with his or her first post. Or was that irony? A chilly reception! I apologize, I do not intend to visit many locations on this forum as I am mainly interested in vintage audio. Also, I do no know Hotzenplotz, but I do respect his knowledge of vintage Shindo!

Thank you Klang. As I believe Ken Shindo was a perfectionist, I have no concerns regarding this preamplifier. It would not have left his hands in worse shape than the original. In a way, it is yet another manifestation of his melding of the old and the new.
