I'm using a ref 5 with some 60 hrs on the clock into a darZeel power amp and am well happy so far, with more to come I'm sure. Not looking for a matching power amp though.

Jerome rumor has it that the C1000 has a replacement announcement coming in Sept. ? Maybe you should wait before you scrap your whole system. It will start with a arc pre amp and surely snow ball from there

I used to have Simaudio P8 in my system to drive Sim W7M, once I brought a loan Ref5 in, I sold P8 and kept Ref 5 in a heartbeat. a week later. I placed order on Reference Anniversary. I am thinking about ARC Ref 610T to replace Sim W7M, But I just not happy to keep replacing tons of tubes in these amps. And I will miss the neutral tone, transparency and big power of Moon's amp too .

TOGA........You know the old saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". If the ARC Ref5 and the Sim W7M are a winning combination, why break them up?

Dan, you're right, better save money. But I am very tempting to add
Esoteric master clock to my Esoteric separates. Don't have experience with this clock things though.

Cheers,
You might find the ARC sound a bit too thin for your tastes coming from McIntosh. You might want to give the new C-J GAT preamp a listen, though. Jonathan Valin of TAS says it is better than the REF 5, and as good as the REF 40, though in a different way. From his comments on his blog at AV Guide, I think he prefers it to the REF 40.

Stephen,

I will try to compare both the Ref 5 and the C1000 in my home.
It is possible that the Ref 5 less weighty presentation could not be for me, but maybe that I could fall in love with other strengths.
Anyway, the synergy of the Ref 2 phono in the C1000 is so high, and I listen only to vinyls now, that I could also end up by staying this way and not move an inch !
The Ref 5 with the Ref 2 could be too much of the ARC sound for a Mc addict like me but I will be sure only when I will compare both.
The GAT could be wonderful but I doubt that I could try it at home to compare it with the C1000.

Sounds good, Jérôme, who knows, maybe you will end up with a Shindo preamp!

I don't know if you could audition Octave where you are, but that might be another possibility.
