Experience with shipping crates?
Was curious if any of you all have ever purchased wooden shipping crates separately for your speakers, i.e., Wilson Audio, Sonus Faber, Martin Logan, TAD etc. Was curious how much a company would charge you for crates......I saw a link on Wilson's site.....looks like they charge several hundred dollars......is this about accurate for a shipping crate that would hold a speaker about the size of a Wilson Alexia?

Buck - I haven’t purchased OEM crates but I did have a pair of Vienna Acoustics Beethoven Concert Grands professionally crated. It was about $300 and the speakers arrived at their new home unscathed.

I have not bought shipping crates, however I have built my own. A trip to Home Depot was in order, and I had them rip me all the panels to build a pair. Using a small skill saw I cut all the corner braces, and screwed everything together. Use hard foam to line the cabinet. I shipped a pair of Cain and Cain Abbey this way. I had about $50 into the crates, and an afternoon worth of time.
