NASA is looking at the microbiome and how it is affected by space . It does in fact change in space. They also did some experiments on mice where they modified the microbiome by giving antibiotics and some mice were more resistant to space radiation. One researcher did a fecal transplant of a MS patient into a mouse with a sterilized gut and the mouse started exhibit symptoms of MS which is a suggestion that the microbiome affects not only your immune system but can have systemic cause of phenotype ie disease. So the field is very new . Tomorrow NASA and the transitional research institute for space health is having a symposium on suspended animation research which I am attending online which should also be fascinating.

1KW, a little closer to home the microbiome is implicated in diseases like ALS, MS, UC, Crohn's, Alzheimer's, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, collagen vascular diseases, kidney diseases like glomerulonephrits, cardiomyopathies, the list is almost endless. However, I doubt that alteration of the microbiome in a meaningful way, will ever be proven to either prevent or cause these diseases.

My personal opinion is that unknown viruses are the cause of much disease. I know this from clinical practice.

My view is that the human cell is fundamentally malfunctioning because of mutations and aging which I regard as diseases and also that the genome is missing a huge amount of genes, as I have plainly stated. NASA's view is that the human cell is functioning normally including the mutations and aging that is occurring everyday. In addition, it is NASA's view that our genome is a product of random chance and therefore could not be missing any information or genes.

If I am correct and I believe that I am, then medical science is in a rabbit hole and very crippled. This is the reason that the life expectancy of a male in the USA is 76 years and is actually decreasing. I hope that you would admit that viewing/understanding the human cell and genome as severely malfunctioning would greatly alter the course of medical research. It's difficult to fix something that is broken until you realize it is. Many centuries ago I believe a toxic ingestion occurred destroying most of our genome. This destruction has been passed on to every human that has ever lived. This is my opinion and I would be happy to discuss this with anyone. I believe many folks have died prematurely because of the rabbit hole medicine and science in general is in.

I don't disagree at all concerning the importance of the microbiome. But will its alteration ever cure a disease or be found to cause a disease? I have my doubts.

Regarding suspended animation, I would be extremely skeptical based on my knowledge of human anatomy and physiology. This is a typical example of significant amounts of money being spent because science is in a rabbit hole. Is this something being contemplated on higher animals?

Also, let me define "rabbit hole". Rabbit Hole equals Dead End. Basic medical science and science in general have reached dead ends. Dead ends are not always obvious. I applaud every breakthrough. Every cure. Every new effective treatment. But nevertheless, I view basic medical science and science in general as at a Dead End. I expect myself, my children, my grand children, etc if we are lucky to die somewhere between 75-95 years of age. I do not expect that ET will ever arrive or that contact will ever be made. This is the classic definition of a rabbit hole.
