What are you using for Speaker cables?

Thanks, Ron. Makes sense the Eclipse use more conductors as the cable appears thicker than Equinox 6.

I agree with you on the value Equinox 6 brings....excellent bang for the buck.

I pretty much speak to Wireworld at least every other day, they have been slammed with new orders.

Seems like their products, and service has really taken off. Well deserved I may add

Not surprising as they make great products. I will be picking up one of Jeff's Silver Eclipse PCs on Saturday!

Thanks Douglax,

Wow, I really appreciate the warm welcome here. I really do and a big thanks to everyone that has reached out welcoming me. I really mean this from the bottom of my heart. Maybe I feel "the love" more since I've been over at AVS for a while discussing many video. Many are helpful but some aren't.

It is very good to know that you also are using the Marantz AV8003. I was blown away when I installed it to replace an original Theta Casablanca. I can't believe the money I spent on the Casablanca at the time and all the press it received at the time regarding how good of a preamp it was. Well, maybe I guess but the AV8003 just stomps all over it by being balanced and extremely quiet and dynamic. My Naim CDX which is a CDP that people seems to love or hate was the cause of a lot of my woes over the years. It is an extremely revealing CDP as far as laying bare any deficiencies in a system. To make a long story short, it showed that it really was the Casablanca as a not very good preamp that was the root cause of all the bad.

I'm burning-in the Silver Eclipse right now. I will provide some thoughts now for you and others to see if I'm on the right track. Last night marked about 25 hours so couldn't really resist listening since I like to know how the cables are changing. At first I was surprised not to hear a big difference, nothing like going from the Equinox to the Eclipse, at least in my system. Then after some more listening, I felt there was more dynamics to the music with better bass, more defined and powerful. I did detect a slight hard edginess to the vocals of Michael Buble' that if anyone knows his voice, it is smooth as proverbial silk. I then listened to it this morning but only for a couple songs. I didn't detect the edginess that I did the night before after burning-in all night, about 35 hours at that point I guess. The other aspect that I'm not totally positive on is that the music seemed smoother. If true, this isn't something I really want actually (edited: sorry meant to say that smooth is something I don't want). I thought the copper Eclipse sounded less smooth. Not that it was smooth but just not as smooth as the silver seemed to be providing. I might be off totally here since as I mentioned, only listened for 2 songs before heading off to work. With Aerial speakers, McCormack amp and a Marantz AV8003 preamp, my sound is very smooth. The intent of getting new cables was to find a very neutral, dynamic, detailed cable that would open up the sound without smoothing out anything since I don't need more relaxed.

The silver in the Silver Eclipse even though brief sure is changing my perspective so far as silver is concerned, but much more listening time is needed. They are continuing to burn-in as we speak so should have about 50 hours tonight when I can't help but do some more listening. My goal is to get to about 100 hours by this weekend to do final listening on maybe a handful of CD's before then putting the Eclipse back in. The one thing I was wanting more of with the Eclipse around 50 hours was the bass seemed a little light. Kind of strange since on some songs I heard bass definition just fine while on other songs I thought there could be more definition and extension all the way down. I'm not a bass junkie and something I always felt with the JPS FX that was way too much in my system. In retrospect, the bass was there but way too full without the definition while lacking all the details and balance of the WW 6's. The bass improving on the Eclipse could be a burn-in thing as well.

It looks like I have some more input to read from others. I noticed someone else recommending the Eclipse. I'm going to give it all a fair shot that's for sure and not just going to pick the Silver just because. I won't pick if more dynamic and details if any type of edginess at all is exposed or the sound compared to the Eclipse is too smooth thus possibly not providing a slightly brighter (hate using that word) sound as compared to the Silver but don't know what else to call it. Still would be neutral but guess copper might not be as smooth?

Robert

Interesting, I can't say going from the Equinox to the Eclipse was small. Maybe it is where it goes. I am using the 1 meter from preamp to amp. Truthfully I was amazed at how good the Equinox was. I could probably have called it a day if I didn't have the Eclipse to try next. Anyway in my system, the Eclipse provides all the details of the Equinox with the harmonic richness / fullness to all the music. Guitars, drums, voices, etc. have more body I guess is the best way to describe the difference. I hear a much smaller difference so far going from Eclipse to Silver Eclipse but truthfully this is from too brief listening so far to really be positive, just initial impression.

Any thoughts out there regarding what the Silver provides over the copper Eclipse? Besides the dynamics which is kind of a given, I was wondering if I'm on track with the silver having a smoother sound or not? I thought I was able to hear little cues in the music that maybe copper didn't provide but this was really hard to say with more time needed.

Robert

So at about 65 hours of burn-in on the SE's, I briefly listened to a couple songs on a CD that I am very familiar with. Kind of strange, sounds like the open lively quality of the copper E's is gone with a much smoother quality. Much more indepth listening will begin tonight around 75 hours but right now, it is a big step backwards I'm thinking.

Is this possible. This is totally changing my preconceived thoughts on silver even if not used as a solid silver design. I truly believe that if I had most any other CD player in my system than the SE's may be exactly the right fit. However, the Naim CD is very musical and said to be analog like in sound. Some Naim folks go back and forth whether it sounds just like vinyl or not but at least all agree it is the most vinyl like sounding CDP out there, well at least in the very top CDP's sounding this way. I've read Audigon feedback from posts from folks asking for a CD player that sounds like vinyl and the CDX is normally mentioned. It is however extremely detailed as well and will let you know of any flaws but I'm thinking the SE's if I'm correct with being a smoother sounding cable is not as good as a fit as the all copper E's.

Tonight will reveal more since I'll be able to go through more CD's. It will be extremely interesting to see after hearing a few CD's to then hear what the same songs sound like with the copper E's back in the mix.

Any thoughts?

Thanks all!
Robert

Robert, I went from all copper lesser brand to WireWorld Silver Eclipse 6. At first I was afraid the "silver" would be too bright, but then I experienced what I perceived as a softening of the sound. I was real confused. How could silver sound less "allegedly detailed" than copper?

I was basing this on listening to a favorite album (Traffic - John Barleycorn Must Die), wherein the "blat" sound of the sax seemed to have become more polite. I did not like that politeness. Upon broader, and further, listening I have reached two conclusions: (1) some of the "blat" sound I had liked was really coloration added by the copper cables (I got there by comparing the overall spectrum on many other CD's and realized the SE6's were much more neutral and detailed than the copper) and (2) the SE6's had not completely opened yet (more time on them brought back some, but not all, of the "blat").

My advice is keep listening longer to be sure they have really settled in to their sonic signature. I did not declare settled until 300 hours when I realized that not much had changed since 200 hours. In other words, 200 hours seemed to be the settled in point. YMMV and your taste may differ.
