But pricier (which is not that bad since I'm buying less but listening more)

I've noticed that 180g is the norm now. I haven't bought a new vinyl that wasn't 180g or 200g and I've not paid attention to that when buying

Yes the vinyl sound quality has improved on the newer stuff. I just bought a new old stock Elton John Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player. Opened it up, gave it a bath and good cleaning then spun it up. The pressing was terrible, worst sound quality on an lp that I currently own.

Hey Mark,

Every week i buy at least two albums that i return because of how crappy the pressing is. Are you buying mostly new reissues? Wait til you find some lightly used LPs from the early seventies (there was something special about those years for powerful jazz and rock recordings) at garage sales for a buck or less! You'll be blown away by what your new table will pull from those grooves! Jeff beck's Goodbye Porkpie Hat version on his Wired album is one of my reference demo tracks. It's like having him in your listening room. But it needs to be loud for the full effect! Enjoy your new TT!

I just returned 2 albums today. A Dave Brubeck Quartet Lp because side 3 was egg shaped. Now why in the world only one side of one of the pair I can't figure out. You should have seen the tone arm walking back and forth. The other Lp was a Grateful Dead Lp that the hole wasn't in the center. The quality control isn't all that Impressive.
