Good Points Jonathan well explained -I guess with my semi subdued listening--I never play "loud"
may have been within parameters for the superb sonics I experienced. The criteria you state would bring some other well known Speaker brands into that mix Id've imagined--no? A well structured reply-kudos Des |

To make the things clear : this tread is NOT ironic against Jonathan Halpern.
It is a thread simply meant to say : listen to the pro, not to me. He is the expert. Do NOT follow my path. I am a free electron. If you want to get a big flavor of the Shindo sound with non compatible speakers, buy a preamp. Not power amps. Precision because a banned " Shindo guy" just wrote on an other site that my post seems like an other attack against Jonathan while it is precisely the opposite. Damn ! Either they see Evil in every thing or I really express myself in a very poor way.

I think most people that buy Shindo in the US would match with highly efficient speakers, or horns, so you are on safe ground. Great advice though - buy a pre amp and see how you like the flavour. Personally I think the Aurieges is a great entry point to sample the wares..I heard a couple years ago in a friend's system and Aurieges matched with a Leak 20 and Quad 57's and it sang so beautifully. It is also interesting to me that you have such a good response to the 40.1's when I read many folk have bass issues with them. I have owned and enjoyed Compact 7's and SHL5's so have a flavour for the brand. I hope 40.1's are more of the same. They were great speakers.

Thanks ! That is great to see that at least one person got my point ! I did not know that you owned Harbeth speakers in the past. The least I can say is that the bass response of the 40.1 is huge and yes, it can be tricky and time consuming to domesticate it. But now it is done and I'm in heaven.

Possibly ironically, but my guess is AS would look at the specs and dismiss the Macs (as preferred by Georges & Jean Marc) as lacking sufficient power, whereas he's probably say a pair of 70w into 8ohm mono blocks would be OK. If the user still found issues, a discussion of room treatment would probably follow. However, if you showed him the specs of the majority of Shindo's power amps, he would simply shake his head! (These are of course nothing more than *What I think he might say*, based on what I've read on the user group). As I read this post, Jerome is simply stating that just because he adores the sound his combination makes, it will not be for everyone.......me for example, in my rather classic British Victorian semi with suspended wooden floors & a cellar below! Caveat Emptor ..... as always in this hobby As an aside Jerome......if Georges would be up for it, I for one would be intrigued by your collective opinions on the Snappers with the M40.1's, although thats easy for me to write, I wouldn't be the ones carrying them up 3 flights of stairs |

Yes - I liked my time with Harbeth, they do very little wrong and sound great with just about any amplifier - you certainly don't need to spend much money. I matched my Compact 7 with LFD Zero (very good amp btw) and then my SHL5 with Luxman L-550A II (which later powered Quad 2905's) and got great results.
The SHL5 had about the right amount of bass in a domestic setting. Certainly it could overpower the wrong room, and I found sounded better on the long wall. I am intrigued by the 40.1, but it is alot of money when you can't demo them. I suspect that your Shindo mono's control the woofers very well, which certainly is something I found in the Luxxie Class amp I had, whereas the LFD (Mosfet) was a little loose. Thanks for your posts - they are always valued. Sending you warm and kind thoughts

That is the main reason indeed why pairing the CCQs with the 40.1 has been difficult. All the other amps are anemic in the bass compared to the CCQs. The boomer impedance of the 40.1 is between 16 and 20 ohm. Right there for the maximum energy from the CCQs. My 225 does not move it in the very first octaves. Hence no bass "problem". The CCQs give the complete full range and expression of the speakers. Full potential means more problems with set up.

Why not. If Jerome is up to it, it's quite easy to try.

CCQs always outperformed Snappers and I am very happy now. But I still have tp bring you my 225. Was nearby today indeed, rolling and skating in Bpis de Boulogne but son made a huge fall and broke his wrist and made a sprain of his ankle. Spent the rest of the day at the Necker Hospital...

I'm sorry to hear that. I hope he's ok and it always suck to lose a day at the hospital.
I'm just back from Greece and I'll have more time soon for you to come by and try the 225. |
