Before the BDP-1 Arrives...
OK, the BDP-1 is on order. Ditto a new iPad. And I've picked up a 3 TB Fantom Drives GreenDrive which is currently empty and formatted in NTFS. I've down loaded a few albums (as flac files) from HDTracks onto my PC and I'm getting ready to download and install dBpoweramp and start ripping CD's.
What are the next steps in getting the music files properly loaded onto the external drive? If there is some issue with that particular drive, I can use it as a backup drive and get a better one for use with the BDP-1. And once the iPad arrives, what's the best way to set ip up as a BDP-1 controller? |

I mean, for example, how should I start loading music files onto the external drive? Should I leave it formatted as NTSF? What directories should I set up? Is there a difference between files ripped from CD and files downloaded from HDTracks? Etc....
Yep - cables are in! |

Hi Howard,
3TB's is a bit big for the BDP-1. I would get a 1TB drive - the best one I have used is the Western Digital Passport. Rip your files to FLAC - DBPOWERAMP is excellent. You can format to FAT32 (I like it best) or NTSF. james |

I'll pick up a WD Passport 1TB drive as you suggest. Why is FAT32 better than NTSF? What about exFAT? Is there a trick to where to save them on the hard drive? What directories should I create? And what about the downloaded files? Are they handled any differently from the ripped ones? Most are flac so far, although one album is a WAV. |

Fat32 is better because you can copy files to that drive over the wireless network. NO EXFAT!!!! No trick to where they are located. Wave is fine as well. Wave AIFF and FLAC are the preferred files. james |

What does it take to reformat an NTFS drive to FAT32, WinXP?

Just leave it as NTSF to get started and you can add a second drive later with FAT 32 when you are more use to the system All thumbdrives come formatted Fat32 so you could pick one of them up as well. James |

So I don't have to set up directories for genres, or artists, etc.?
Sorry for all the questions. |
