A friend of mine uses a pair of Krell CAST 650's on his Salon 2's.

Between the current the amps use and the increased air conditioning needed he said his electrical bill went up after he started using them.

Has anyone used magtech amps with revels? Although these amps are designed for maggies, the underlying principle is having lots of currrent available.

Seems to be a match made in heaven if you're looking for a value proposition compared to monoblocks. or even more costly stereo amps.

Honestly, I cannot add comparative information from any other manufacturer than Ayre but here's my two cents. I bought my Revel Salon 2s after purchasing a Ayre system. The Revels were connected to an Ayre V5xe. I thought that the sound was pretty incredible and so did anyone who visited our house. Yesterday, I took delivery of an Ayre VX-5. The amp is not yet burned in however, the mating of the amp with the speakers seems to be entirely superb. If you can somehow arrange an audition of the Ayre amp, you cannot come away with disappointment.

I've heard Salon 2's with Gryphon Antileon EVO and it sounded like a match made in heaven. Salon 2's are very transparent in the treble so any shortcomings in that area will be ruthlessly revealed. They also need an amp that can control the bass drivers; I've heard several good amps that made the Salon's sound boomy and lacking in bass definition, and that list included Pass XA series mono's. I've not heard the combo but I think that a Krell Duo 300 would be an excellent candidate too, in addition to McIntosh MC452 or 302.

Care to share what the other amps were that made the Salon's sound boomy?

I would love to hear the new Mark Levinson 536 monoblocks with my Revel Ultima Salon 2's. With 400 watts per monoblock, I might be tempted.
