I guess I'm spending my hot tub money on a stupid crack wire. Damn. I'm not the first one to say it on this forum : if you can't afford it, don't take TA Reference or above home to demo. Just walk away.

I don't know their line at all... Is it copper, silver, or crackonium?

I'm not sure what the actual make up is. I believe they use varying degrees of copper and silver (maybe alloy, maybe not) in a proprietary blend known only to the ancient order and very rarely seen Himalayan Monks. This special blend IS called crackonium.

Don't think so. After all, TA has been around for decades, won a plethora of awards, is featured at many high end shows with respected high end equipment by equipment manufacturers, and is the internal wiring to speaker brands like Wilson and (if I'm not mistaken) Rockport.

Of course not talking of TA. But descriptive above got me for a moment thinking that this thread too has been infected. |

I think you're right. The price wars continue to escalate. Before too long no one will be able to buy audio equipment.

Do you guys subscribe to the garbage in, garbage out theory as far as an IC mattering
Yes
I belong to the school of your hi end audio is only as good as the source you are playing and you degrade down the chain from there. I'm not surprised the link between pre and amp made a difference for you more so than speaker cables. There's too many differences in cable design and end result properties (resistance capacitance) and too many differences between component operating ranges (slew rate, damping factor, input impedance, output impedance) so what is the best cable between components down the chain becomes a quest. I believe TA measures their cables for consistent properties for quality control. As you get into their upper reference lines the measurements may become specific for the gear they are going to connect. Plus the materials they use to reach the tighter tolerances are more expensive. This escalates the prices as you "upgrade: |
