Oppo 205 and Marantz AV 7703
Hi
Just got an Oppo 205 and I wanted some hook up advice. I have a Marantz AV7703 processor. 1) will I get better audio using the analogue outs to the Marantz (if Oppo Dac is better) or using the HDMI out and letting the Marantz do the work? 2) if using the Marantz with HDMI from the Oppo, is all the speaker setup stuff in the Oppo irrelevant ? 3) is it worth feeding the HDMI output from the cable box into the Oppo for better video processing? 4) any other suggestions? OPPO and Marantz
I have the OPPO 205 which I use as an AV processor in a small media room set-up.
So: 1) The analog outs from the OPPO 205 (esp the dedicated stereo outs) are very good. Doubtful the Marantz could do better. 2) Yes, if you pass the Audio via HDMI, then OPPO is just pass through. 3) I do bring the cable box video into the OPPO to get the video processing of the OPPO. I use a simple HDMI switch in front of the OPPO so all sources pass through the OPPO (205 has only one HDMI in). If you use (1) and (3) you may not need the Marantz except as an amplifier. Lots of options to try. There is an active OPPO 205 forum (the 'other' forum) with some knowledgeable experts on the OPPO - may want to check it out.

If you use the Oppo Dac instead of the Marantz processor, don’t you lose the benefits of Audyssey room correction?

Yes you lose the room correction. You will have to listen both ways and decide what you prefer. |
