Interesting Ron.
There could be a problem with the PSVane tubes then...

Thank you Ron.

I've looked at the tube and they seem ok (ie no crack, no burning smell,...).

How do I check if one of them is defective?

They are still brand new and have been playing flawlessly for a long day on Saturday.

BTW, I just ordered a pack of 20 fuse! That should cover me if that happens again.

I received and installed the new fuse (I wasn't expecting the delivery to be so fast).

After plugging everything back in, I turn the Manley on and, while I was checking the bias, I had another loud pop in the speaker.

However it seems that nothing happened. Bias was still showing and I have sound in both speakers. Nonetheless it is stressing me out. Do you know what might have caused that sound ? Is there is something wrong ?

One tube is dying Georges.
Remove those chinese things right now and put back the Tung Sol and tell us what happens....

Ok they're gone. Back in the box !

The Tung Sol look better built but too bad they are rattling. Plus when the psvane were working I really enjoyed the sound.

I guess I'll have fun with some tube rolling. I already have a pair of 12AT7W coming my way

I can firmly recommend the Winged C Svetlana's as a replacement, excellent sounding tubes, and while not the cheapest, £200 odd for the 8

You're full of resource

You can have a look on Thursday and tell me if this is normal. I'm listening to Supertramp live and I'm having a good time nonetheless.

Yep. Fuses don't blow for no reason at all. Something is causing too much current draw - a.k.a. - bad tube somewhere. Did you notice if any of the tubes had plates glowing orange/red? I had some 6L6's and 300B's do that, but it didn't phase the amps one bit luckily.

I had a pair of 5U4's that rattled in an old amp that I overhauled for one of my brothers. I replaced them with some RCA 5U4 GT's (used narrower, taller plates) and the rattle went away.

I had some EH 6CA7's for an old Consonance M-100 SE I had years ago. They sounded better than any of the EL34's and KT88's I tried regardless of being new or NOS.

On a side note, I've always felt that if you're going to own tube gear, it would be a good idea to invest in a decent solid state tube tester. I have one, though no tube gear now. Go figure. LOL
