Default Handel's Messiah Recommendations

Hi everyone, it's snowing here in Michigan so I think it's going to be a white Christmas. My reason for this post is I am looking to buy a Handel's Messiah CD or SACD for my wife. When I open the CD case of the one I thought I had, the case was empty. I think one of my kids barrowed it and it never made it back into the case. So I was looking to tap the forum for suggestions on the best arrangements and sonic quality. If anyone would like to give some suggestions that would be great.

Thank you,

~Mike

Handel's Messiah - The Dunedin Consort and Players - A Linn SACD and the best vocal and choral recording I have ever heard.

I posted this last week in the "Classical" thread and I really do feel that this is the best I've heard. It is a very well recorded SACD with wonderful ambience, great voices, superb orchestration. I have 8-10 different recordings of The Messiah and think this is the best by far.

Unfortunately, I couldn't find the record on any of the usual sources (Amazon, Elusive Disc, Music Direct) - "Out of stock", but it is available directly from Linn Records (Which is where I got mine) Linn Records - Messiah (Dublin Version, 1742)

This recording is superb! (By the way, I was in the middle of writing my post when Bill's (Metaphacts) post came up, and I own both of the recordings he listed. Of those two, I prefer the Harmonia Mundi, but I stand by my recommendation on the Linn/Dunedin Consort)

I have the same version as Julian (Linn/Dunedin Consort). I have really enjoyed this performance.
